
Odia film industry lost one more legendary filmmaker on Wednesday, September
9, to the battle against Covid-19 with the death of veteran film maker Sharada
Prasanna Nayak. The popular director and lyricist, Nayak passed
away at the age of 93 at a private hospital here.
He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here after being
found Covid-19 positive.
Recently Odia film industry had lost two veterans—well known actor
Bijay Mohanty and film editor Deben Mishra.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Governor Ganeshi Lal expressed their condolences on the demise of Sarada Prasanna Nayak.

Nayak was a national award-winning film director. His three films—Lakshmi
(1962), Kaa (1966) and Stree (1968) had won national award. He had directed Kaa and Stree under the screen name of Sidhartha. These three movies based on popular Odia
novels are known as classics in Odia film history.
His songs for the film Sansaar established him as a popular
lyricist in the Odia film industry in the 1960s and 70s. He has written more
than 200 songs for Odia films and television serials.
He had also won the prestigious Jayadev Samman for the year 2013,
conferred by the State government, for his life-time contribution to Odia cinema.
He is the elder brother of noted music director Swaroop Nayak and Odisha’s first woman film director and producer Parbati Ghosh.
