Veteran Odia Actor Ajit Das Passes Away

Bhubanewar: Well known Odia film actor and theatre personality Ajit Das passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at the age of 71 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

He had tested positive for Covid 19 on September 1.

Ajit Das started his career in Odia film industry in 1970s after graduating from the prestigious National School of Drama. He started his career as a villain from the film ‘Sindura Bindu’ as a villain in 1976.

He had also served as the Head of Department of the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. He had nurtured many young talents as a theatre director, who are now well-established actors in Odia film industry.

He was known for converting classic Odia novels and stories into plays. His theatre group ‘Ajit’ has made an exemplary contribution to Odia theatre scenario.  

He played the role of main protagonist in the film ‘Hakim Babu’ which won National Award for best Odia feature film I 1985. He has worked in over 70 films in his career spanning over three decades.
